“Help! I Dropped My Phone On My Baby’s Head, What should I do?”

What Happens if You Drop a Phone on Babys Head?
Accidents are unstoppable, no one can predict when something might go wrong. Dropping a mobile, or any other object onto our infant’s head is also one such accident; we can never guess when our hands might slip.
The good news is that most of the time your baby will be fine, they will react and often cry and maybe get a bump or bruise, but accidentally dropping a phone on their head wont cause any serious injuries.
A baby may struggle to build resilience if a parent overreacts to small slips and falls. Instead of screaming in dismay, the most important thing is to stay calm, and not scare the baby as well.

When a mobile falls on your baby’s head, the first and most important thing to do is examine your baby’s head calmly and keep an eye out for indicators of serious harm.
Should I apply a cold compress to a baby?
Yes! Placing a cold compress gently onto the bump whilst comforting your baby can reduce swelling.
A bag of frozen veg such as peas, wrapped in a dishcloth or muslin so that it is not too cold is ideal. Make sure that you only apply it to the affected area for around ten minutes, and make sure the rest of your baby stays warm. Having a ready cold compress in the freezer is a great idea for when these accidents happen, which they will especially when your baby starts moving around. Some Possible Serious Injuries
It’s VERY, VERY unlikely that any of these would happen because of a mobile, but I decided to list some down just in case. If you see any of these symptoms, take your LO to a doctor as soon as possible.
Concussion
A concussion is an internal injury in which the brain does not function normally for some time. Loss of consciousness, headache, balance problems, vomiting, and irritability are all symptoms.
Concussions range in severity from mild to severe. If you fear your kid has had a concussion, you should take him or her to the doctor.
Skull Fracture

Imaging can reveal whether or not your child has a fracture and what sort it is. There are four varieties:
- A linear fracture is a break in the bone that does not move the bone.
- Depressed fracture, where the skull is sunken
- Fracture of diastatic nature which is a break along suture lines
- The basilar fracture which is a break at the base of the skull
What to Do if Youve Dropped Phone on Babys Head?
Try to remain calm before getting caught up in the blame game. The most important thing to do at this stage is to check and monitor your child’s reaction and get care as soon as possible.
Is the baby readily consoled? Examine the point of impact the bump. Even large bumps aren’t always as serious as they appear.
Your baby’s bulge is caused by blood pooling behind the skin. It may continue to swell for the first day following the injury. As it heals, the bruise hue may shift from black and blue to a golden green.
If your infant loses consciousness or exhibits other warning symptoms such as unbalance, vomiting, or disorientation seek emergency medical treatment. It’s also worth noting that if you fear your infant has hurt their neck, you should exercise caution when transferring them.

Dropping a phone on the baby’s face can have similar consequences as dropping a phone on their head.

Some injuries that could happen when your baby gets hit by a phone;
Bruises
When blood seeps from the tiny blood vessels beneath the skin, it causes a bruise. Because there is nowhere for the blood to go, it produces a purple-red stain on the skin.
The bruise will eventually fade away and color will get back to normal.
Nosebleeds

Fracture (broken bone)
A fracture of the face is a break in the bone or cartilage. It might be difficult to establish whether an injury is a fracture, dislocation, sprain, or strain simply by looking at it.
If you feel you or someone else has a facial fracture, you should seek medical attention.

Can Dropping a Phone on a Baby Cause Brain Damage?
The good news is that the answer to this question is usually no. Serious harm from falling/dropping, including falls on the head, is uncommon. Still, the chance exists, and you should pay close attention to symptoms as they appear and if they worsen over time.
Can You Let a Baby Sleep After Hitting Their Head?
If the baby appears fine after hitting their head, it is safe to put them to bed. However, if they appear abnormally tired or bewildered when they wake, you should consult a doctor. Afterwards, check on your little one every 2 hours for the next 24 hours.
Prevention is the best cure
This is such a common occurance amongst new parents the bast thing to do is to prevent dropping your phone. Invest in a soft phone case that allows you to multi-task.
